We delivered a third round of free GIS mapping workshops across Northland last week and the response was promising. Over 40 keen kaitiaki participated in the Kaitāia, Kerikeri and Whangārei workshops and contributed enthusiasm, active engagement, thought provoking pātai and worked on real-life projects.

Te Kahu o Taonui and Eagle Technology have provided us with support to deliver resources to local iwi, community groups, local hapū, whānau and marae who require assistance with a range of kaupapa.

Projects included the mapping of awa, maunga, significate sites, marae and private property.

Attendees arrived with different levels of mapping ability and were able to make use of the tools at hand.

"This is the second workshop that I have attended and it's great to be able to build upon my own skillset thanks to Kaio upskilling himself and bringing loads of knowledge home, especially from his trip to the US recently. I am now able to do alot of basic mapping work myself and then share that knowledge with others within my marae."
