Writer: Moana Whenua Trust LtdMoana Whenua Trust Ltd

Te Wai Mauri wānanga was a collaborative effort held by Te Rūnanga Nui O Te Aupōuri and Te Kura o Te Kao this month. Educational wānanga for future generations were critical pieces of feedback received during engagement hui held for haukāinga, landowners, internal and external stakeholders and iwi members who live in close proximity to freshwater bodies within Te Kao. Te Wai Mauri wānanga allowed almost 80 tamariki a chance to engage in hands-on learning that included traditional net-making, question-answer scenarios,, hīkoi and history sharing by Te Aupōuri kaumātua as a method to putting kaitiaki tools in the hands of our future leaders. Ngā mihi ki a koutou kātoa. Thank you to those who shared their time and knowledge during this two day event.

Here's a neat radio interview by Joanne Murray who ran wānanga as part of Wai Mauri alongside Tuia Maara and Te Hiku Rongoa Māori Collective: https://tehiku.nz/p.NbP
